1. Respect the weekend. Make a list of the activities you plan to do on your weekend. NOT work-related. Make sure they are for you and your family. Put away your computer and turn off your cell phone when you can.

2. Take a break. When you start to feel the pressure and fatigue of working at your computer, take a break. Step away from the computer. Do some exercise for about 20 minutes. Take time out for daily exercise; something to get your blood pumping.

3. Set consequences. Force yourself to set aside the cell phone and laptop during time with family. Much like the “swear jar” where you put money in a jar every time you use a swear word, do the same for every time you check email or Facebook. When at dinner, a fun idea is to stack all cell phones face down on the table. The first one to grab their phone pays the dinner tab.
